When I think of great music to listen to while driving in the car, Molly Hatchet’s smash ‘Flirtin’ With Disaster’, immediately comes to mind. For some reason, it makes you want to hit the gas, and go just a little bit faster. (I’m even convince the song speeds up as it goes along, almost egging you on!)
This 1979 song was off Molly Hatchet’s second album by the same name, and remained on the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks, peaking at 42. The song is Molly Hatchet’s most famous, and has appeared in a number of films over the years including Suspect Zero, The Dukes of Hazzard, Straw Dogs and television shows My Name Is Earl, Supernatural and surprisingly King of the Hill. And each time you heard it, you knew something good–or really, really bad–was about to happen.
Here’s the band performing ‘Flirtin’ With Disaster’ LIVE in 1979, although for this one I don’t know the venue where it was recorded (would appreciate it if anyone can help with that.) It is also worth noting that while we were researching this song we found out that most, if not all, of the original members of Molly Hatchet have passed away, many within just the past few years. Tragic! May they rest in peace.
But now, it’s time to rock!
