If there was every any doubt about how well Guns N’ Roses performed in concert, their now famous Live at the Ritz performance in 1988 really solidified Gn’R as a great band and one that would stand the test of time. “Sweet Child o’ Mine” is off the band’s debut album, Appetite for Destruction (1987) and was released in August 1988 as the album’s third single. The song eventually topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the band’s first–and only–number-one single in the U.S.. Ultimately, Billboard ranked ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ as the No. 5 song for all of 1988.
MTV aired a series of concerts called “Live from The Ritz” on Saturday nights during the 1980s and this performance by Guns N’ Roses appeared on February 2, 1988.
