To us, Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again” will always be connected to that great scene in the 2003 hit comedy ‘Old School’ where the newly married character, played by Will Ferrell, is working on his Trans Am in the driveway, stereo cranked to the max (Whitesnake, of course), just enjoying being a guy … until his new wife shows up, asks him to turn down the music, turn off the car, and promise NOT to get drunk at his friend’s party the next night. You just knew that marriage wouldn’t last.
“Here I Go Again” was originally released on Whitesnake’s 1982 album, Saints & Sinners, although the power ballad was re-recorded for their 1987 self-titled album and again later that year in a new “radio-mix” version, which was released as a single and hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on 10 October 1987. In 2006, the 1987 version was ranked number 17 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Songs of the ’80s … and rightfully so. The song embodies so much of the late ’80s hair bands, and their music video not only captured their concert performance chops, but also featured the “It Girl” of that era, Tawny Kitaen, who was prominently featured in several Whitesnake videos. (You’ll remember her when you see her draped suggestively all over the cars.)
From 1987, here’s Whitesnake with ‘Here I go Again!’
