Did you miss out seeing Boston LIVE back in the day? Yeah, me too. The great thing today though, is that you can find these great videos of concerts from back in the day, including this performance by Boston at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ in June of 1979. The music is great, but I’m not a huge fan of them switching back and forth between some handheld color footage and some black and white footage that looks like it was shot with Neil Armstrong’s moon lander camera. Is it supposed to be artistic, or was this the only way to stitch the concert together from existing footage? Who knows, and who really cares at this point? At least someone recorded it, and we get to enjoy it now.
For those who may not know, “More Than a Feeling” was written by Tom Scholz and first released by Boston as the lead single from their self-titled debut album in September 1976, with “Smokin'” on the flipside. The song went all the way to number five on the Billboard Hot 100, and has since become a classic rock staple. In 1999 it was named the 39th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. 39th?
Here they are, LIVE from Giants Stadium in June of 1979, it’s Boston!
