WATCH: The Moody Blues – “Your Wildest Dreams” from 1986

Why can’t life be like an 80’s music video? Or at least some 80’s music videos, as this might not be the best example, but more on that later.

The Moody Blues “Your Wildest Dreams” is a 1986 single written by the band’s lead singer, principal songwriter and lead guitarist Justin Hayward and was first released as a single, and later released on their album The Other Side of Life. It went on to be a Top 10 hit in the US which had not happened to a Moody Blues song since “Nights in White Satin” in 1972. In many regards, after a couple of mediocre albums, it was the Moody Blues comeback record, in part because of the success of the music video which received a Billboard Video of the Year Award in 1986 and was frequently featured on MTV.   I remember it as being a great video, although it may seem dated to some when you watch it today. I still like it and the song very much.

The lyrics of “Your Wildest Dreams” tell the story of a man who is remembering his first love, and wonders if she remembers him the way he remembers her.  Unlike a lot of 80’s music videos, this one did not end well, and the star-crossed lovers remained apart with a very sad shot of the woman watches at her man is whisked away yet again by rock and roll. And, in case you didn’t already know, “Your Wildest Dreams” was followed up by a sequel in 1988 titled “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere”, from their album Sur la Mer.  It’s below, and is actually a superior music video, although I don’t like the song as much.

Here it is, the 1986 music video for the Moody Blues smash, “Your Wildest Dreams” followed by “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere.”
