WATCH: The Police – “Roxanne” LIVE at Pinkpop Festival 1979

Apparently, Pinkpop was a Dutch music festival (had to look that one up) and in addition to the Police, on the stage in 1979 were The Average White Band, Dire Straits, Elvis Costello and Rush. Not a bad lineup!

Here’s more on the song from Wikipedia:

“Roxanne” is a song by English rock band The Police. Written by lead singer and bassist Sting, the song was released in April 1978 as a single from their debut album Outlandos d’Amour. It was written from the point of view of a man who falls in love with a prostitute. On re-release in 1979, the song peaked at number 12 on the UK Singles Chart.   The song ranked No. 388 on the Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” and was voted No. 85 by VH1 on its list of the “100 Greatest Rock Songs”.  In 2008, “Roxanne” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Here they are LIVE from the Pinkpop Festival in 1979, The Police with “Roxanne.”
