WATCH: “Torn Between Two Lovers” LIVE performance by Mary MacGregor – The Midnight Special – 1977

Oh boy, what a painful song to have to listen to again. Hated it back in ’77, and it hasn’t gotten any better. On the plus side I can say I always enjoy these live performances on The Midnight Special, and MacGregor isn’t a bad singer (or hard to look at) it’s just a horrible, horrible example of late 70’s pop radio. Obviously some people loved it as it hit #1 on the US charts in February of 1977.

If you absolutely have to have a copy of this song for your collection for some reason, you can get a Mary MacGregor compilation album called “Just Mary” here.

Interestingly (or oddly) the song was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary fame. It was also the title track for MacGregor’s first album and inspired the title of a television movie which aired in 1979, starring Lee Remick, George Peppard and Joseph Bologna. As far as I can tell, it is thankfully NOT on Netflix.

Is there a worse song from the 1970s? I dare you to find one!
