Who remembers when Quiet Riot’s album Metal Health came out in March of 1983? It wasn’t their first album, but it was the first for a reorganized version of the band after the loss of Radny Rhoads to Ozzy Osbourne, and it now featured lead singer Kevin DuBrow with drummer Frankie Banali, bassist Rudy Sarzo and guitarist Carlos Cavazo. After signing with CBS Records they went into the studio and did a cover version of Slade’s “Cum on Feel the Noize” which apparently the band was not really that enthusiastic about. Too bad, because the song became a hit and eventually landed at the #5 spot on the Billboard charts and Metal Health went on to became the first heavy metal disc to capture the top spot on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart, eventually selling over six million copies. And, almost as quickly the band crashed and burned after the lackluster release of their second album, Condition Critical.
But for now, we can appreciate this rockin’ LIVE performance of “Cum on Feel the Noize” recorded at the infamous US Festival in 1983. And just for comparison, we also have the original 1973 Slade version of the song below. Not bad either!
