An explosive tune by any estimation, this live performance of ‘Keep Yourself Alive’ by Freddie Mercury and Queen back in November of 1974 seems especially electric today. It was the opening track to the band’s debut album named simply Queen, and surprisingly failed to make the charts either in the US or ULK, but ultimately went on to become one of the band’s signature tunes.
This rare footage was originally released as Live at the Rainbow, a half-hour film containing footage from both Rainbow shows, November 19 & 20, 1974 and was–if you can believe this–shown in movie theaters in Britain in the 1970s and 1980s as an “short” before longer concert films by other bands you may have heard of, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, as well as the release of Jaws 2!
